Activity description

A must-do, bucket-list adventure; come and enjoy Shark Cage Diving with sharks from the world-famous Seal Island in False Bay.

Join African Shark Eco-Charters in Simons Town, a mere 45-minute drive from Cape Town. A 35-minute boat ride will take you to Seal Island, home of 65000 to 75000 Cape Fur Seals, and it is from here that you submerge into the natural world of sharks.

HOW IT WORKS.

Each participant gets to spend 20 minutes in the structurally engineered cage, which remains partially above the water and secured to the side of the boat. From there you are able to witness these graceful creatures as they interact with their natural surroundings in their natural environment. You will get to see these amazing sharks from the safety and security of the cage.

IS DIVING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY?

No diving experience is necessary to cage dive, a rudimentary understanding of swimming is required if you are to get into the cage.

African Shark Eco-Charters are the only operators who offer scuba with every dive, again no experience necessary as we make use of the hookah method. There are experienced instructors to assist you with any questions you may have. Should you choose to rather snorkel, please ask the helpful crew to assist you with a snorkel.

IS IT HARMFUL TO THE SHARKS?

The shark’s safety is of the utmost importance, and this time spent with the guests is used to educate and instil a love and respect of sharks of all kinds. A portion of your booking fee goes towards the institution for shark protection and study. It is African Shark Eco-Charters' fight to have sharks and their environment protected.

DOES SCUBA AFFECT THE SHARKS COMING TO THE CAGE?

No, definitely not. Sharks are inquisitive creatures and if anything, the sounds and vibrations made by the bubbles make the sharks come to investigate where they are coming from.

This is a once in a lifetime, must-do, bucket list adventure that everyone has to try at least once!

Please Note: African Shark Eco-Charters operates from Simons Town between February and September each year, thereafter shark dives are booked in Gansbaai.

We had always wanted to do this, and during our vacation we signed up with Adrenaline Hunter. It was PERFECT. All of the staff was knowledgeable and made the whole experience fun. The marine biologist being on the boat with us to answer any questions was really cool. They even provided breakfast & lunch which was a nice bonus. It was also great that they made a professional go pro video of the entire day, the footage was much better than what we took. We were THRILLED with the everything. Great company and great experience!
