Located in the Gironde department, Lacanau sits on the Atlantic coast, a mere 50 kilometres from Bordeaux.

The exceptionally long (14 kilometres) white sand beach combined with the superb weather in the summer makes Lacanau very popular with holidaymakers.

Lacanau, however, remains one of the most renowned surfing spots in France and the ocean is constantly sought out by surfers due to its favourable water conditions. The strong tides and winds make are perfectly complementary, though they also create rip tides, well known in the region, of which you will need to be careful.

For those of you with less daring can check put Lacanau Lake which offers a number of activities such as Stand Up Paddle, and boat excursions.

The famous pines of the French Landes which were initially planted to prevent the sand encroaching further on land, offer wonderful shade along the sea shores.

The 13000 hectare forest is an area that is both maintained and protected, making it ideal for guided treks and excursions – there’s no better way to see the exceptional fauna and flora of the region.
