Activity description

Don't look down as you attempt this advanced abseiling and canyoning excursion at Upper Rose Garden Gorge in the Tirol.

A knee-trembling 70m rappel down into one of Austria's most infamous alpine gorges, Rosengarten thunders and roars for 2km as it races to meet the mighty Inn River. Whilst tourists follow the specially adapted staircase that hugs the walls for safety - you'll be heading right into the heart of the action, hurtling down vertical cliff faces, dodging hairpin turns and battling the current - the ultimate face-off between man and mother nature's most powerful element.

Rose Garden Canyon (Rosengarten) is near the town of Imst in the Oberinntal Valley.  One of Austria’s most spectacular natural sights,  Rosengarten is a narrow 2km chasm edged by Schinderbach Creek from Johannes Church in Imst up to the Blue Grotto at Hochimst. Accessible by a series of beautiful wooden boardwalks and stone steps, the gorge mountain trail is open during summer. In winter, the region is known for its family-friendly ski resort, Hoch-Imst. Innsbruck is only 40-minutes away by car or mainline train and is served by an international airport.

Meet your instructor at the activity centre in Tarrenz for this 5-hour Xtreme canyoning excursion at Upper Rose Garden Gorge in the Tirol. Suitable for experienced climbers/mountaineers with adequate abseil or rappel skills (+16 years old), this advanced canyoning route starts with a 25-minute hike the forest to reach the start of the gorge and its narrow, deep cut yet breathtaking natural scenery above Hoch-Imst. The amazing panoramic view is only surpassed by the 70m vertical rappel you'll need to complete the course, weaving through whitewater squeezes, tight gullies as go with the flow as you use your body as a human luge! Once you reached the exit area, it's only a short walk back to the bus which will transport you back to the activity centre for a hot shower and snacks.

A vertical course with many physically demanding obstructions, you must have adequate canyoning/climbing/abseiling experience to complete this advanced route. Total duration in the canyon is 2.5 hours with a transfer time of 25 minutes.
