Activity description

Learn how to follow the iron road on this beginner’s day course in the Austrian Alps.

Reach the base from Oberstdorf to Hirschegg or by car from Kempten (Allgäu) on the B 19 to Oberstdorf - in the direction of Hoher Ifen , just before the valley station Ifenbahn on the right.

Meet your guide at the activity base by the Ifenbahn for this beginners via ferrata course. One of the easiest and safest ways of exploring iconic mountains across the world, this traditional form of climbing was pioneered in Europe – and is home to some of the best routes in the world! What better way to conquer the Austrian Alps that on this hand’s on lesson – supervised by an experienced instructor. Starting with a short introduction and kit breakdown, you will cover the basic groundwork – from safety testing to kit observation, moving on to some short, easy climbs on the neighbouring climbing wall. By the afternoon, you’ll be ready to tackle your first big climb – travelling to the summit of the Kanzelwand with your guide. The highlight is a 26 m long trapeze high wire called ‘Burma Bridge’ – suspended high over the Kleinwalsertal Valley 2000m below! The ultimate way to face your fears and master a new skill, too…
