One of the oldest and most trusted forms of mountaineering, learn the basic techniques and safety procedures to reach the world’s highest peaks – mastering ladder, fixed cable and traditional rung climbing in the Kleinwalsertal Valley – reaching the Kanzelwand summit in just one day!
This activity is run & operated from the Klettergarten in Ifen, Kleinwalsertal (Austria, Vorarlberg, Bregenz). Reach the base from Oberstdorf to Hirschegg or by car from Kempten (Allgäu) on the B 19 to Oberstdorf - in the direction of Hoher Ifen , just before the valley station Ifenbahn on the right.
Meet your guide at the activity base by the Ifenbahn for this beginners via ferrata course. One of the easiest and safest ways of exploring iconic mountains across the world, this traditional form of climbing was pioneered in Europe – and is home to some of the best routes in the world! What better way to conquer the Austrian Alps that on this hand’s on lesson – supervised by an experienced instructor. Starting with a short introduction and kit breakdown, you will cover the basic groundwork – from safety testing to kit observation, moving on to some short, easy climbs on the neighbouring climbing wall. By the afternoon, you’ll be ready to tackle your first big climb – travelling to the summit of the Kanzelwand with your guide. The highlight is a 26 m long trapeze high wire called ‘Burma Bridge’ – suspended high over the Kleinwalsertal Valley 2000m below! The ultimate way to face your fears and master a new skill, too…
Operating during the summer season from May-October, this activity is considered moderate and includes practical via ferrata technique, material science, safety observation using the Walzer Klettersteig (B/C grade). Guests should come prepared with closed toe, flexible sole footwear.
