Activity description

Legends are made on the epic Ötztaler Ache – Austria’s most challenging wildwater river!

An experience where risk and reward go hand in hand, the Ötztaler Ache is one of Europe’s most revered whitewater channels – a ride the guarantees to test your technique and your teamwork… a adventure where every stroke counts, paddle as a unit and live to tell the tale…

Location
Situated between the villages of Oetz and Haiming in the Inn Valley, the Ötztaler Ache is considered one of the most challenging in Europe. A 14km section with IV – V rapids for advanced paddlers only,  it is also the annual venue for the whitewater kayaking world championship Sickline.

Activity
Meet your guide at the activity base in Sautens for the rafting excursion on Europe’s most challenging river, the Ötztaler Ache. Suitable for experienced paddlers with previous whitewater experience, this advanced rafting excursion tackles some of Austria’s hardest IV –V rapids. A half day trip for adults only, start with a detailed safety briefing and kit check before you travel to the embankment area – learning the commands and paddle techniques from your in-boat guides. A test of technique and team work, paddle together through passages such as the "Waldschlucht" and the legendary "Boa Constructa" -  infamous for their sheer power. Be prepated for swamping waves, sharp drops, powerful rapids and unexpected obstructions along the way. An intense 14km route that works every muscle, once you reach the finish line, you’ll be transferred back to the base where you can change and get a hot shower.

Conditions
The Ötztaler Ache is suitable for rafting from May – September  along a class IV-V section of the river suitable experienced paddlers with a high level of physical fitness. River classifications are explained below:
Class IV: Intense, powerful but predictable rapids requiring precise boat handling in turbulent water.
Class V: Extremely long, obstructed, or very violent rapids.
