The ideal alternative to waiting your turn while you get bashed about by the waves, private lessons are a great way of cutting the hype and getting straight to the action. Whether you want some friendly advice in the line-up or you've got a buddy that wants to have a go, grab your board and head down Kuta's iconic shore for private surf lessons.
Kuta beach is a 20-minute transfer from nearby Ngurah Rai International Airport. This tourist hotspot is walking distance for Seminyak and a 30-minute drive from the coastal resort, Canggu making it bust with backpackers and holiday goers. Rated as one of Indonesia's best surf sports by the Stormrider Guide, Kuta beach is renowned for its 8km Indian Ocean shore break with long, consistent waves that are suited to beginners and intermediates alike.
Organised for adults and children alike, private and semi-private surfing lessons are organised according to previous experience and defined based on personal goals that range from paddling out, practising your standing series, mastering green waves and perfecting tricks like cutbacks and bottoms turns. The location of your lesson can also be modified to suit your skill level - the majority of lessons for beginners take place on Kuta Beach - but spots renowned for their reef breaks and power waves can also be included.
Kuta Beach in Bali is an exposed beach break that has reliable, gentle surf. May-Oct (Dry Season) is the optimum time of year for waves. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest.
