Circle the smoking crater rim of an active volcano on this MTB your of mighty Mt. Batur. A scenic ride via remote single tracks and serious XC sections, climb to the top of this epic volcano and enjoy an afternoon at altitude, cruising around its infamous lava fields and enjoying the varied terrain on this private guided tour.
This activity is run & operated from the activity base in Gianyar, near Denpasar. The route travels from 1700m (35km) to Batur Lake in Kedisan. Mount Batur is an active volcano located at the centre of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung – this route is long and steady with three short, sharp climbs.
Meet your guide at your accommodation for this private MTB tour of Mt. Batur Crater Rim. An exciting ride with a new natural feature around every turn, this active volcano is renowned for its scenic single tracks, rocky lava fields and serious XC descents that follow the contours of the landscape. Travelling to the base of the volcano, your guide will offer a short safety briefing and route breakdown – ensuring you are comfortable with the terrain ahead. Starting at 1,700m, follow your guide as you start to climb to the upper rim of the volcanic caldera, reaching a section of exhilarating altitude single track along the caldera ridge – winding through long elephant grass and casuarinas forest. From here, it’s pure single track with technical downhill sections and steep, lung-bursting climbs. The reward is stunning views with the sea on one side and Batur Crater on the other. Traversing the inner rim of the caldera on broken, rough and rugged pathways, reach the iconic lava fields to witness the mark left on the landscape from the ’68 eruption. On your return, enjoy a traditional Balinese lunch and homemade snacks before using the complimentary shuttle service to reach your hotel.
This route is suitable for the active rider and not recommended for those with little mountain biking experience. This ride is great during the wet season and into the dry. At the end of the dry season, this route can get a bit dusty. It traverses compacted soil tracks, sand, loose rocks & sharp pumice. Full vehicle support and ‘opt out’ opportunities.
