Ready to rock your standing series and make some great friends along the way? Head to the iconic Kuta shore for beginners' surfing lessons from one of Bali' favourite surf schools!
Taking you from total novice to surf nomad in less than one lesson, learn all the basics of surfing and catch the Indo surfing bug with beginners' surfing lessons in Kuta. A shoreline that has been drawing in crowds since the 30s, this beachside surf school guarantees great fun and professional guidance - whether you're stopping by for a few days or committing to a full week.
The original oasis on the Indonesian island of Bali, Kuta has gained a reputation as the party district, and as one of Bali's first tourist developments, the nickname is well suited. Kuta's long, consistent waves make it a popular surf spot, particularly for beginners, with plenty of outfitters offering board rentals and surf lessons. The airport is conveniently located only 15 minutes drive and the local 'strip' is popular with backpackers due to its late-night, affordable atmosphere.
Situated on the main beach in Kuta, beginner's surf lessons are organised according to duration - with one lesson lasting 2.5 hours. Using a stretch of beach suited to novices, gear up and head out with your boards for an initial warm-up session and safety briefing (30 mins), before practising your standing series and joining your fellow beginners in the foam for two hours of paddling - hopefully riding a wave in to shore by the end of the lesson. Unlike other surf schools, groups are limited to a max of 4 pupils per instructor - meaning more personalised tuition. Surf lessons can be booked in packages up to 7 days (one lesson a day).
Kuta beach is a popular beach for beginners due to its exposed beach break that has reliable surf. May-Oct (Dry Season) is the optimum time of year for waves. May is the hottest month in Bali with an average temperature of 28°C (82°F) and the coldest is January at 26°C (79°F). The wettest month is January with an average of 90mm of rain. The best month to swim in the sea is in January when the average sea temperature is 29°C (84°F).
