So your backside turns are looking pretty bad ass you've nailed board control, what's next? Head outback and lead the line up with intermediate surfing lessons in Kuta.
Taking confident riders from surf nomad to local pro, start exploring the coastline with an expert instructor and work on your technique along the way. A shoreline that offers a taste of true surf culture, take your shaka skills to the next level, and even get good enough to drop a board size in the meantime!
Kuta's long, consistent waves make it a popular surf spot, particularly for beginners, with plenty of outfitters offering board rentals and surf lessons. The best wind direction is from the east-northeast. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights.
Working in small group/instructor ratios to ensure you get personalised training and assistance, intermediate surf courses in Kuta are based on the main beginner's beach but will be mobile to ensure you get the right break to suit your skill set. Focusing on some of the trickier aspects of shortboard surfing, this 3 day - 7day course offers one 2 hour lesson per day and is suited to riders who already have experience completing backside turns and have good board control - or alternatively, have already completed the Beginner's course. Assessing your skill set on the first day, surf coaching is tailored to paddling out, overcoming waves, surf navigation and learning how to join the lineup. Rental is included in the price, which means you can try a few different boards, too.
Kuta beach is a popular beach for beginners due to its exposed beach break that has reliable surf. May-Oct (Dry Season) is the optimum time of year for waves.
