Activity description

Trace the contours of the landscape back to the Aga era on this trekking tour in rural Bali.

An itinerary you won’t find in your average travel guide, leave the bustling streets of Eastern Bali and experience the raw beauty of the Balinese countryside on this bespoke walking tour. Trek through lush jungle, taste organic raw honey and visit one of the oldest villages in the island: Tenganan, the land of the ancient Bali Aga people.

Location
This activity takes place in Eastern Bali and travels to Tenganan Pegringsingan in the regency of Karangasem. A 6km trail that travels through jungle, rice fields and local roads, this half-day tour visits one of the oldest & most remote communities on the island.

Activity
Meet your local guide at the activity base in Eastern Bali for this trekking tour to Tenganan. A wild and untouched landscape that has been tended by the same Balinese community for centuries, explore one of the most secluded Indonesian villages in the archipelago on this 6km trek into Aga country. A guided tour that travels back to an era where the fastest form of transport was water buffalo, cut your path through the dense tropical rainforest and teeter on the edge of traditional rice paddies – following a secret route through the Balinese backcountry. Meet locals along the way and taste local produce as you climb – savouring wild honey and scented orchids hidden deep in the Eastern ridge. Reaching the Aga village, witness ancient traditions and mystical customs that can only be observed in this remote pocket of society, decoding a way of life that has been preserved by its complex local laws and tribal lore.

Conditions
A half day expedition via rural pathways and wild rainforest, this 6km trail is suitable for adventurous beginners. Please note that modest dress and suitable footwear is required.
