Learn to Freedive with two AIDA courses combined over 2 full days in Southern Barbados near Bridgetown with Alex Davis, AIDA & Advanced PADI Freedive Instructor.
The AIDA 1 & 2* course begins with a basic theory that includes safety and current news/records for men and women. After that, you begin a practical breathing session on yoga mats to relax and prepare you for breath holding.
You then head to the pool (or confined water area) where you practice the safety and rescue skills before warming up for Static Apnea. During this session, you'll experience the urge to breathe and learn about contractions. Your instructor then teaches you Dynamic Apnea and how to correctly buddy a diver as well as the rescue and safety skills.
After lunch, you go for an open water dive - generally in Carlisle Bay - and begin practicing equalization in the ocean. You'll be introduced to diving on the line and then shortly explore the wrecks on the way back to shore.
You'll have two open water dives to learn correct posture for Free Immersion as well as refining and improving your Constant Weight. You'll also perform surface and depth rescues to understand how to handle real-world situations.
On this second day, Alex will cover more detailed theory on anatomy and physiology of a freediver as well as understanding the specific equipment needs of freediving. You'll take a short exam which will help you assimilate the new information.
There's a lot of focus on training technique as well as having fun. When you move through the water efficiently and with good form, you'll start to see big results in your freediving potential and enjoying recreational dives for fun.
The course starts at 8:30am and finishes around 4:30/5pm weekdays and weekends. It's conducted with no more than 4 students to ensure the highest levels of safety and education.
You must be able to swim 200m unassisted (or 300m with mask/fins).
Please get in touch with the instructor after your booking is confirmed to communicate your sizing info.
