Embrace your wild side as you climb, scramble, and abseil in the Rila Mountains, the highest mountain range in Bulgaria and the Balkans!
During this 2-day excursion, you’ll get to discover some of the most spectacular, alpine areas of Rila that’s teeming with massive rock formations and vertical walls overpassing 400 meters. With two options to choose from as you climb the famous Zliya zab peak (2678 meters), you’ll get to experience an epic adventure that’s catered to your skills as you surround yourself with breathtaking, panoramic views.
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to the Mountain
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Sofia and you’ll be driven 1.5 hours to the Malyovitsa area. From there, you’ll get to choose your adventure:
Option 1 (easier route) – You’ll hike for approximately 3.5 hours to the Zliya zab peak (2678 meters) where you’ll get to climb its south ridge taking in stunning views before you’ll abseil and hike back down.
Option 2 (challenging route) – You’ll hike for approximately 2.5 hours to a col between Zliya zab peak (2678 meters) and Lovnica peak(2695 meters); this is your starting point for some intense climbing to the peak that’ll take around 3 hours. After a short break, you’ll abseil down to the south side of the mountain and take on the challenge to climb two more peaks: Orlovets peak (2685 meters) and Petlite peak (1514 meters). After, you’ll back down.
Once you arrive at the guesthouse, you’ll get to rest up and have dinner before claiming your reward for the day: a good night’s sleep!
Day 2: Via Ferrata & Departure
After breakfast, you’ll start a short hike to the bottom of Kuklata rock (2247 meters) before you can tackle your 2.5-hour via ferrata route. When you reach the ridge, you’ll be surrounded with incredible panoramic views of majestic mountain peaks and valleys. After a short break, you’ll descend back down where there will be a transfer waiting to take you back to Sofia.

Good physical condition and previous mountaineering experience are required for this trip.
A good climbing technique is required to climb the various rock structures in option 2 (chimneys, crevices, corners, etc.) as well as a certain degree of specific training. The physical inability to overcome certain passages can be compensated by the support of your guides.Special terms
For both days, you will have the opportunity to choose between two difficulty levels. The itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities, preferences, and weather conditions.

For the more challenging option, the climbing difficulty grade is up to 4 UIAA, so climbing experience would also be advantageous.
