An interactive experience, the Lemon Shark population that thrives on the east of the island loves to sunbathe in the shallow reefs just off-shore - jump in the water with the area’s gentle and sociable species!
This activity is run & operated from Santa Maria resort on Sal Island and travels to Shark Bay on the east coast. A breeding ground and nursery for Lemon Sharks, the shallow reefs near Feijoal are popular for sightings.
Meet your guide at the activity base for this shark watching experience at Shark Bay. One of the top 10 things to do on Sal Island, the area’s tropical waters and thriving reefs make the perfect environment for the area’s iconic Lemon Shark – a gentle giant that can reach 3m in size! Travelling 25min across to the east side of the island, choose to observe from the sand or head into the water for your chance to experience these reef hunters in their natural environment! Your guide will be on hand to tell you more about the marine life in the area and the importance of the species for local biodiversity. Before returning to Santa Maria, you will travel up to the top of Pedra de Lume for fantastic panoramic views across the Cape Verde archipelago – and your chance to spot the shark’s silhouettes from above.
This activity is suitable for all ages and abilities. Shark encounters are frequent but cannot be guaranteed – please note this is a no-contact wildlife watching experience. Water shoes are required and can be rented if necessary.
