Kite & Tonic school’s method is safe and extremely effective, but also relaxed and pleasant for learning to windsurf in Sal Island, Cape Verde.
The professional instructors have a safe and extremely effective, but also relaxed and pleasant method to teach windsurfing. The lessons take place with a maximum of 2 students per instructor for more safety and progress.
The school is located in front of the Riu Hotel, a 20-minute walk from the centre of Santa Maria, southern Sal. The beach benefits from crystal clear water, white sand, and no rocks. You'll find the strongest wind on the island. There are no obstacles blocking the wind so it remains stable. It's usually side-shore and slightly side-offshore therefore you'll find smooth and glass water.
1. Introduction (1 hour private, 1.5 hrs with 2 persons)
You'll learn the basics of windsurfing. 25% of the lesson, your instructor will teach you how to hold the sail on the beach, to position your board and to turn. Then, you'll practice on the water (75% of the lesson). While falling and getting up, you'll make your first meters.
2. Long distances
You are able to balance and pull up the sail yourself. So now it's time to sail longer distances... 100 meters to the left, 100 meters to the right. Can you turn as well? You'll feel your body becoming stronger by the minute.
3. ...And further
You'll learn to sail longer distances and improve your turns while windsurfing. You will also train to sail upwind (meaning you'll return to the same spot). As of the moment you can turn and come back on the same spot, you can continue renting material or take an advanced lesson.
