Verghellu is one of the most complete and fun canyons you can find in Corsica. Everything is planned so that you have a great and fun time, but not too difficult (totally feasible for an initiation canyoning).
The canyon is located in the Verghellu valley, between Venaco and Vivario. After a 20-minute walk to get there, you will spend 4 hours enjoying all the elements of canyoning: jumps, slides, abseiling, zip-line... And it will take you only 3 minutes to get back to the meeting point after the hike!
The crystal-clear waters of this mountain canyon will please all nature fans.
The canyoning activity lasts half a day. The jumps are never mandatory and don't exceed 8 meters high. There are not a lot of abseiling (3 max per descent) and don't exceed 15 meters high. However, some abseiling cannot be avoided and are therefore mandatory. The instructor will be there to guide, comfort and belay you.
Canyoning in Corsica is famous all over the world and some sites are super crowded. However, Cédric and Manu take care of choosing quiet routes and times to avoid running into the other canyoning schools and to fully enjoy the wild mountain experience.
How can I assess the difficulty level of the canyons? In order to fully understand the canyon classification in Corsica, you must know the standard framework established by the FFME (Mountain and Climbing French Federation).
This grading system includes three features to assess a canyon's difficulty:
- the first one is the passages' verticality ( V ) and the use of the rope. Scale ranges from 1 to 7;
- the second one is the aquatic aspect ( A ) of the passages. Scale ranges again from 1 to 7;
- the last one concerns the passages' dfficulty and the canyon's scope ; scale ranges from I to VI.
Here is the current grading:
Verghellu: V3 A3 III

This canyon is open from June to October.
It's better if you have shoes with rubber soles and that protect your ankles.
You will be walking in the river bed, the pebbles are slippery and the stones can be covered with lichen.
Be careful: the water shoes (such as "jelly shoes") are adapted to the beach but not to the mountain because they don't hold the ankles properly and their sole is not thick enough to walk in the mountains.
The "city shoes" type Converse, Bensimon, etc, that have slippery soles are not advised either.
