Activity description

Soak in the views from the top of the Kozjak Mountain Range on this hiking excursion near Split.

Start at sea level and explore the changing landscape of the Dalmatian highlands – passing through the ancient tree line to discover mysterious caves, military bases and mind-blowing views over the Adriatic on the way to Sveti Jure!

Location
The Kozjak Mountain Range is near the towns of Solin and Kaštela near Split. The highest point is 676m on the way to Sveti Jure which overlooks the Dalmatian Coast and the Adriatic Sea.  A landscape renowned for its diverse cave systems, Vranjača cave is the most popular with two caverns at 105m below the surface – filled with stalagmites and stalactites.

Activity
Meet your mountain guide in Split for this hiking excursion in the Kozjak Mountain Range. A full day adventure, The Kozjak trail begins in a dense pine forest leading to a small cave and view of the mountainous villages of Mosor and Klis. Travel along wooden bridges through the tree line to discover hidden WWII bunkers on your way to Vranjača cave – walking the stone staircases to reach the collapsed ceiling. Increasing in difficulty as you climb, navigate the uneven paths and rocky outcrops to reach the stone church of St. Juraj and the summit at 676m – stopping to soak in the views along the Adriatic and out towards Italy before you hike back down to the town of Solin where you will be transferred back to Split.

Conditions
A demanding excursion suitable for groups and families, this 16km (return) hike passes through uneven, rocky and unstable terrain – crossing suspensions bridges and travelling through stair-assisted cave systems which can reach temperatures of -15°C. Suitable footwear and layering are recommended to accommodate for the changing weather & terrain. Due to the rural location of this activity, self-drive is not recommended. The total hike duration is 6 hours – with a transfer drive time of 30 min each way.
