Activity description

Chase the magnificent Northern Lights on this thrilling snowmobile adventure in the heart of Lapland from Rovaniemi. Welcoming participants from ages 4 and up on this family-friendly excursion!

This tour takes place from Rovaniemi on the outskirts of the Finnish Taiga. Rovaniemi is the capital city of Lapland, located in the north of Finland. This area features vast untouched wilderness, snow-covered forests and pristine nature. Due to its proximity to the Arctic Circle, it is also one of the best places in the world to witness the magical Northern Lights!

The adventure begins at the starting point in Rovaniemi (pickup is available within a 15km driving distance), where you will meet your experienced guide. This evening snowmobile tour is ideal for groups of friends and families alike, as it is suitable for total beginners and expert off-roaders. The guide will go through a safety briefing and introduction to snowmobiling. You can choose between a twin snowmobile, where 2 people share (1 driver and 1 passenger, with the opportunity to swap halfway) or a solo snowmobile (driven by 1 person). Children under 12 will sit in a sled pulled by the guide's snowmobile. Once you receive all of your Arctic gear and equipment, you will set off into the wilderness.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the Northern Lights, using a snowmobile gives you access to parts of the landscape that would have been inaccessible with any other form of transport –offering a scenic setting and totally private viewing experience. The guide will track the weather to find the best route to take, travelling deep into the Taiga forest. Leaving the artificial lights of the city centre behind, you will ride into coniferous woods – following the lights and stars overhead.

Once you reach the prime viewpoint for witnessing the Aurora Borealis, you will stop to build a warm campfire. Don't forget your camera, the guide will help you capture some photos to keep forever! A traditional Finnish campfire BBQ meal of pork sausage, marshmallows and hot blueberry juice (vegetarian/vegan alternative upon request) will be served, as your guide shares insights about the Northern Lights and Arctic life in general. After you have enjoyed your meal and taken in the dancing lights, you will snowmobile back to the starting point and return to Rovaniemi.

This snowmobile excursion in Finnish Lapland is a fun, family-friendly way to experience the magical Northern Lights. Book your next unforgettable adventure in Rovaniemi now!

Too cloudy so absolutely no chance of lights. Not much snow so very corrugated trail ride and fairly slow. These conditions are unpredictable and uncontrollable and that is fully recognised. The office was extremely busy at the time and no one could move. Again, fully understood for this time of the year. Good guides and knowledgeable.
