Activity description

Hike into the heart of the wild Arctic on this snowshoeing adventure in Lapland.

Follow footprints into the world’s largest woodland – exploring the Taiga with specialised snow shoes, a tradition that dates back to arctic living itself. Learn more about the seasons and wildlife in the Boreal Forest, looking out for active species like Arctic Hare and Snow Fox, too!

Location
This activity takes place in the Taiga, the gateway to the Arctic Circle Hiking Area, a wilderness destination ideal for year-round hiking. The area’s trail network is diverse and has a variety of routes. Only a 15-minute drive from Rovaniemi International airport, a ride to downtown takes 20 minutes by car.

Activity
Meet your guide in Rovaniemi for this half-day snowshoeing experience in Lapland. Start with a short transfer to the arctic boundary of the Taiga, clipping into state-of-the art snow shoes that will help you navigate the snowy terrain. Suitable for groups of friends and families alike, this tour is organised at a leisurely pace, allowing you to enjoy the winter scenery as you make your way to a traditional Finnish cabin in the heart of the arctic wilderness. Travelling through knee-height snow drifts and scenic paths, your guide will be on hand to tell you more about the cultural heritage and natural legacy of the region – helping you spot wildlife along the way. Stopping at Vaattunki for a local campfire BBQ, keep warm around the fire as you taste signature dishes and try local blueberry tea – returning to Rovaniemi where your adventure will end.

Conditions
Operating from October to April, this snowshoeing experience is suited to all ages and abilities. Please dress appropriately as temperatures can reach lows of -30°c.
