Rovaniemi is a large city located in Finnish Lapland. This activity takes place in the Taiga, the gateway to the Arctic Circle Hiking Area, a wilderness destination ideal for year-round hiking. The area’s trail network is diverse and has a variety of routes. The major reason why you should try snowshoeing is that it helps to keep your body in good shape during the winter. Moreover, you will be hiking surrounded by the natural scenery of Lapland.
The adventure begins at the starting point in Rovaniemi (pickups within a 15km driving distance are available), where you will meet your experienced and friendly guide. The day starts with a short transfer to the Arctic boundary of the Taiga. You will receive a safety briefing before strapping on your high-quality snowshoes. Suitable for groups of friends and families alike, this tour is organised at a leisurely pace, allowing you to enjoy the winter scenery as you make your way through the open nature.
The expert guide will lead you to the deep Arctic forest. Even for little kids and for non-sporting people, it is a joyful winter experience. You will pass by frozen lakes and follow amazing nature trails between the woods. If you are lucky, you may spot some native species like the Arctic hare and snow fox. Your guide will be on hand to tell you more about the cultural heritage and natural legacy of the region – helping you spot the wildlife along the way. Midway through the excursion, you will stop to keep warm around a campfire. Some traditional Finnish gingerbread snacks and hot blueberry juice will be served as you enjoy the peaceful surroundings. At the end of the tour, you will return to the starting point in Rovaniemi.

Course of events
- Pick-up from your accommodation or meet at the starting point in Rovaniemi
- Receive snowshoe equipment and Arctic gear
- Transfer to the Taiga Forest
- The snowshoe adventure begins!
- Break for hot drinks and snacks around a campfire
- Return to starting point and transfer back to Rovaniemi
Activity requirements
Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by adults paying the full price.
Special terms
At least 2 people are required for this tour to take place on weekdays and Saturdays.
At least 4 people are required for this tour to take place on Sundays and public holidays.
