Better known as "Prises de la Bastille" (storming of the Bastille), this via ferrata is situated in the heart of Grenoble, making it a charming route between mountain and civilization.
Open since October 1999, Via Ferrata les Prises de la Bastille is located in the city center of Grenoble. You'll climb on the historical fortress of the city, set up on the west cliff faces of the mountain, overlooking the Jardin des Dauphins.
From the cliffs of the Bastille, it's the only via ferrata in France located in an urban area. It is very popular and it's also an original way to discover Grenoble. On sunny days, a hundred of Via ferrata enthusiasts climb the Bastille. Composed of 2 parts, the course can be adapted according to the level of the practitioners.
During 3 hours, you'll be accompanied by a state-certified guide who will give you technical advice and ensure your safety.
There is no approach walk, the departure of the via is near a parking lot. The first part starts with a vertical pillar of 90 feet, followed by a wide traverse of a rocky cirque with a beam, a monkey-bridge, a Nepalese bridge, and more!
The second part is a bit wilder than the first one but just as interesting! A common pilar leads to a wooden platform where it is possible to choose the difficulty to reach the top: to the right, a steep and physical traverse; straight up, an easy pilar. The more you climb, the more you will have a breathtaking view of Grenoble and the Chartreuse Mountains.
You will finish the route in the foothills of the Bastille and then descend by foot in the Jardin des Dauphins.
