Discover the famous lava tunnels of HITIAA (Lavatubes) and their magnificent sculptures with an experienced instructor.
Between aquatic hiking and canyoning, the Lavatubes of Hitiaa are a must for any hiker who visits the island of Tahiti.
The lava channels were formed during the volcanic period when the island was born. The rocks and vaults have been carved by Mother Nature for hundreds of thousands of years. Inside, it's dark and wet but the scenery will leave you speechless!
This hiking trip in the lava tubes is dedicated to sporty people and good hikers. You'll be accompanied by a canyoning instructor and hiking guide with many years of experience in French Polynesia.
From Hitiaa, you walk for about 30 minutes uphill and reach the lava tubes where you progress through the ropes, lit by your headlamp.
At the first lava tunnel, you go upstream with rather delicate and slippery passages. Then a rope passage is necessary to reach the second tunnel.
In the second lava tube, get ready to get wet! Each pool is an opportunity to dive, always in the presence of your guide who knows their depth and the presence of rocks. A beautiful arch about 10 meters high is just before the third Lavatube.
The third tunnel is undoubtedly the most impressive. It's a large labyrinth with a watercourse, waterfalls, and many pools where you can jump several meters high. These tunnels are also called the golden caves because their walls are covered with a small golden seaweed.
At the exit of lava-tubes, you follow a beautiful river with waterfalls where you can swim.
