Activity description
In the national park of Pindos you will find the best places to go canyoning. Only a few kilometres away from Meteora, Grevena, and Ioannina you can go canyoning in one of the wild nature of Greece's mainland.
You can go canyoning in 2 different canyons: Kleftis (Thief) or Portitsa.
Kleftis: According to the legend one thief during Othoman occupation was persecuted by the Othomans and went to hide in the gorge of Lialista. Finding it difficult to pass from the one side to the other of the gorge, he made a statement that if he succeeded, he would build a bridge. Since then, there is a small stone-built bridge that connects both sides of the gorge... the Bridge of "Kleftis".
The gorge for the locals is known as well as or Lialista. The trail begins from the stone bridge of Katsogianni and ends before Kleftis Bridge. Α narrow gorge of almost 1 km width and height of 150 m. Dark in many places, but still thrilling for every kind of adventurer.
Portitsa: A stunning route that begins with a half-hour walk downhill to the bridge Portitsa, a white stoned path hidden among the bushy plant. On the beautiful bridge Portitsa you will enter the gorge facing the towering cliffs of 150-200m. You will cross the canyon walking and swimming at some points. There's also some abseiling and rappels to do - the main rappel if from a rock of 4 meters. You will be impressed by nature while going down this canyon.
