The island of Kalymnos or Calymnos is widely regarded as a paradise for climbing enthusiasts! Here you'll find some of the most beautiful limestone crags in the world, offering a wide range of climbing on slabs, big walls, overhangs and tuffas for all levels and styles. Climbing in Kalymnos is a unique experience!

Over the course of a week, under the supervision of your experienced and passionate climbing instructor, you'll develop your climbing techniques and boost your self-confidence on this climbing course in Calymnos. All in a fun and relaxed holiday atmosphere, with sunshine, delicious Greek food and the Aegean Sea nearby...

This is an introduction course to outdoor rock climbing. Ideal for indoor climbers who want to make the transition from indoor to outdoor rock climbing and for casual climbers who want to acquire basic climbing and safety skills.

The level is from 5a to 6a.

 

Objectives

You'll learn :

All techniques for single pitch sport climbing
Top-rope climb (possibility of intro to lead climbing)
Safe belaying
Understanding of outdoor risks
Basic safety skills
Build confidence
Coaching and training to progress in your level

Course of events

Lessons start at 8.30 am on the climbing site and finish at 4.30 pm.
Day 1: Arrival on the island
Day 2: Grande Grotta area, the symbol of climbing in Kalymnos
Assessment of your climbing and safety techniques in order to draw up a personalised climbing programme. You'll take your first steps on stalactites.
Day 3: Exercises and progression in climbing (movement, fluidity, breathing and reading).
Introduction/training in lead climbing
Day 4: Climbing on the island of Telendos
Lead climbing, building confidence and discovering the most beautiful routes.
Day 5: Rest - Activities: diving, cycling, kayaking, beach
Day 6: Climbing in a canyon with a view of the south face of Telendos
Climb and progress.
Day 7: Climbing routes at your own level!
Day 8: Return

Activity requirements

You need to be an indoor climber or a beginner in rock climbing to take part in this activity.

This course is aimed to climbers with some top-rope climbing experience who are ready to make the next step and become an autonomous climber for single pitch sport climbing.  Kalymnos is the ideal location to learn to lead with well protected routes, close bolting and a huge range of climbing styles!

No experience of outdoor or lead climbing is required.

Ideal for climbers who want to challenge themselves and progress in the most beautiful routes of Kalymnos. Simon works with you on the efficiency of your climbing movements, mental skills, breathing, climbing strategies and physical aspects.  He will choose the best routes for you to optimize the development of your competences on the rock and of course, to enjoy the best of Kalymnos! At the end of the week, you will climb harder, be more confident to work projects and onsight harder routes. You will be able to analyse your climbing so you can build your own training program to progress back home.
