Explore Cheung Chau at twilight on this evening kayaking experience.
A little island with a long history, Cheung Chau has been many things since its inception as a trading port in the Bronze Age. A pirate hideout, spiritual mecca, marine sanctuary and home to the annual Bun Festival, this twilight kayaking experience savours the eccentric and lovable charm of Hong Kong’s original coastal settlement.
This activity takes place on Cheung Chau island, Hong Kong. Connected to central Hong Kong via a short ferry from Victoria Harbour, it is renowned for its busy market stalls and annual Bun Festival.
Meet your guide at the activity base in Cheung Chau for this evening kayaking tour. An island renowned for its fun, laid-back atmosphere, the neon glow of the shoreline is also reflected in the marine life – with its coastline as one place to possibly experience marine bioluminescence. After a short safety briefing, travel down to the beach to your kayaks, embarking on a sunset tour of the bay. Paddling by moonlight, enjoy the distant twinkle of Hong Kong and the tugboats travelling back to the harbour – watching your paddle come to life as unique bioluminescent algaeshine like stars in the sea! After exploring a shoreline that was once the secret hideout for the infamous 17th century Qing Dynasty pirate Cheung Po Tsai, return your boats and stroll into the village to discover the night market – trying local delicacies along the way. Our top tip: visit during Cheung Chau Bun Festival - a weeklong event that includes Taoist ceremonies and music, a parade, lion dances, drum beating and an exciting ‘Bun Scrambling’ competition.
This activity operates throughout the year and visits Cheung Chau Island. Guests will be in two-seater double kayaks with a spray deck for extra protection. Set to a casual pace, this tour is suitable for all ages and abilities. Closed-toed trainers or water shoes required.
