Renowned for its big waves and even bigger adventures, learn to surf on Iceland's Arctic coastline.
An experience like no other, discover the black sands of Iceland's hidden coastline on this off-grid surfing lesson into the wild unknown. Defined by the raw and unpredictable nature of the Arctic weather, this is the type of trip can't be planned - demanding a free-spirit and an open mind. Whilst previous surfing experience isn't necessary, a sense of adventure is essential.
The beach breaks on this surf tour are a closely guarded secret. Organised based on the group's previous experience, surf lessons will take place on beaches that are safe and suited to beginners, however, surf instructors ask clients not to geotag any of the spots they take them to and treat the info and knowledge they share with them with respect and responsibility. Take photos for memories, if you share them then just geotag #iceland.
Learn your standing series on snow blanketed beaches or catch your first green wave with colonies of Arctic seals on full day surfing lessons in secret spots around Iceland. Picking guests up from their accommodation (or airport if necessary), groups will travel into the wild Icelandic backcountry to try their hand at cold water surfing. A fun day out where you can learn to surf with experienced instructors, surf rental and wetsuits are included to ensure you've got the right equipment for the cold temperatures that can dip below freezing in winter.
Operating during summer and winter in Iceland, lessons will differ depending on the season. During the summer, light is no problem due to the midnight sun that offers 24 hours of daylight - but tricky winds and a lack of swell can affect the fun. Water temperature in winter is only just above freezing and often accompanied by raw winds and stormy conditions. Due to Iceland's unique volcanic landscape, beaches can be covered in old lava flows, so most of the waves break over volcanic reefs or basalt rocks that can be extremely sharp and dangerous.
