The south-western tongue of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, Sólheimajökull offers a splendid backdrop for a glacier hike near Vík í Mýrdal: crevasses, amazing ice formations, sinkholes and jagged ridges will fill your eyes during your excursion! For 3 hours, you will discover this amazing world of ice alongside a local guide who will share with you the history of the glacier and fascinating facts about it.

Whether you have done it before or it is your very first time, this glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier is sure to delight everyone, especially with the opportunity to try your hand at ice climbing during the excursion. Equipped with all the equipment you need to climb the magnificent blue walls of ice (ice axes, crampons, etc.), you will discover ice climbing in complete safety under the supervision of a guide who will teach you the techniques you need to progress. This frozen world is always in motion, so you are sure to hear the ice crack as it adjusts under your feet, without any danger!

- Meeting with the guide in the car park at the Sólheimajökull glacier

- De-equipping and return to the car park to finish the activity

Activity requirements

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Hiking boots must be worn: it will not be possible to add the crampons required for the activity to other footwear.

It is very important to wear warm clothing, preferably waterproof, so that you can enjoy the excursion to the full.

Special terms

Please give yourself plenty of time to drive from Reykjavík: in good conditions, the journey takes just over 2 hours without stops, but with poor weather or road conditions, the journey will take longer.
