Leave the city behind and head northwest to the valley of Skorradalur for a beautiful day of hiking and climbing on the mountain.
Skessuhorn is one of the most fun climbs you can find outside of Reykjavík! The northwest ridge exposes an incredible landscape with an alpine feeling.
The adventure begins with a one hour drive from Reykjavík to the valley Skorradalur. Upon arriving at the mountain, your guide will go over safety precautions and how to properly use your climbing equipment. The approach will take from 2 to 3 ½ hours with your guide safely leading you the entire way. The trek is an adventurous one with a few rivers to cross, smaller rocks to ascend, and an incredible view from start to finish. Under the mountain, you will have some lunch and relax before the climb.
Climbing the ridge will take another 2 to 3 hours. The ridge is not difficult and should be a fun time! Once on the summit, you will take some photos and have a moment to enjoy the fresh mountain air and incredibly scenic views. The descent back to the car will take a total of 3 ½ hours. After a long day of hiking, you will have some refreshments and drive back to Reykjavík.
