Are you brave enough to go swimming in the dead of an arctic winter? Suit up and dive in with snorkeling excursions in Silfra - Iceland's top dive location & UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The only company to offer wetsuit & drysuit snorkelling in the bracing winter waters of Thingvellir, there's a reason only true adventurers are able to face the subzero temperatures of the northern continental drift. A pristine national park that attracts hardy divers to its clear waters and exotic underwater canyon - your wetsuit might protect you from the worst of the Icelandic winter, but just wait until your face touches its icy surface...
Situated 50km from Reykjavik, Silfra is a freshwater tectonic fissure between the North American and Eurasian plates in Thingvellir National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the only place where you can swim between two continents and ranks on the world's top fifty diving destinations. There are three main dive sites: Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral and Silfra Lagoon with shallow entry points for snorkeling at the end of the fissure.
A cold water snorkelling experience that needs no previous experience in order to participate, this snorkeling trip will offer you the freedom to explore the exotic arctic meltwater of Silfra lagoon in small groups. Perfect for anyone who doesn't mind a little cold, gear up with a thick wetsuit or drysuit, hood, booties and gloves and wade in to discover as deep as your breath will take you - experiencing 100% visibility in a stunning geological enigma.
Providing 100% visibility, depth ranges from 10-45 meters in this freshwater lagoon. Water temperature at Silfra is 2-4 degrees Celsius all year round - therefore, only those comfortable with a little cold from the freezing glacier water should go for the wetsuit (drysuit activity also available and recommended during the winter season).
