Ice climbing is a variant of climbing in which you'll be secured with the help of a harness, a cord, and helmet as safety equipment. Also, you'll be required to use an ice ax or piolet, and weatherproof boots with crampons to make your way up. If you've experienced rock climbing, you'll love ice climbing!
Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, the 4th biggest glacier in Iceland. This natural beauty was the subject matter of the 2012 documentary Chasing Ice, which focused on climate change.
The adventure will start from the Sólheimajökull parking lot, where Troll Expeditions will provide you with all the equipment you need. Then, a 30-minute walk will take you to the ice where your guide will show you how to put on the crampons so you can walk and climb safely over ice.
Ice climbing is a perfect way explore a glacier that formed over 500 years ago. Sólheimajökull is a glacial tongue from the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier and is located next to the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, surrounded by black sand and stunning mountains.
You'll come across many crevasses, deep cracks in the surface of the glacier, and vertical shafts in the ice which are formed by melting water finding it’s way into fissures and cracks.

You will meet your guide at the parking lot at Sólheimajökull glacier parking lot and after a 30-minute hike, you will be at the glacier.
You will then get all the necessary safety equipment, as your guide provides both crampons, ice axes and other safety gear needed to make the tour both safe and enjoyable.Activity requirements
