Activity description

Explore the Wild Atlantic Way with coasteering in Kilkee Bay!

A natural sea defence that separates the Irish coast from Kilkee’s placid bay, Duggerna Reef is a dramatic landscape designed by the pure tidal power of the Atlantic. Explore the gullies, caves, cracks and different rock formations created by the raw force of the Wild Atlantic Way on this coasteering adventure in Kilkee Bay!

Location
This activity takes place on Kilkee Beach in County Clare. A seaside town on the west of Ireland, the horseshoe bay is protected from the Atlantic Ocean by the Duggerna Reef. Kilkee is midway between Kilrush and Doonbeg and 1 hour from the centre of Limerick.

Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity base for this coasteering adventure in Kilkee Bay. Suitable for groups of friends and families alike, coasteering is a coastal adventure on all fours that will have you climbing, scrambling, jumping and swimming – exploring the tide line with an experienced guide. Starting off at the beach, kit up with a wetsuit and BA before you learn more about ocean safety on the route you’ll be navigating. Walk to the start of the course along the headland on a short nature hike, appreciating the scenery of the Wild Atlantic Way and getting a feel for the rocky, slippery conditions underfoot. Following your guide, take a leap of faith into deep pools and explore the shore as you wild swim – tackling sections like ‘The Washing Machine’ and swimming against the current into secret coves and beaches. Look out for local wildlife as you explore, as curious seals and dolphins are common sights off the coast – plus loads of macro critters and seabirds, too! Working your way back to the beach, your adventure will end with a short walk back to Kilkee Beach where you can mark the moment with a group picture and a cup of hot tea before you leave!

Conditions
This activity operates throughout the year with lessons organised according to age and ability – as well as weather factors like tides and winds. Operating along Kilkee Bay, groups will be expected to scramble, climb, jump and swim – under the supervision of a lead guide at all times.
