Follow the iron road to the top of Col Rodella on this easy and accessible via ferrata excursion in the Dolomites.
If an afternoon spent in the company of some of Europe’s mightiest mountains sounds like a fair trade-off for a 2hour climb, then head to the small resort of Campitello di Fassa for your first experience of via ferrata. Just one of over 150 trails that span the UNESCO World Heritage site, Col Rodella is considered a steep yet simple course for anyone that’s just finding their footing.
Connected by cable car to the resort of Campitello di Fassa, Col Rodella, a paradise for paragliding lovers as well as sports climbers, is a prominent relief on the Sella pass belonging to the Val di Fassa, in the heart of the Dolomites, located in the mountainous group of the Sassopiatto above Campitello di Fassa. The road runs almost vertically along the south wall of the Col Rodella with plaques, cracks and chimneys. A UNESCO World Heritage site, in winter Col Rodella, is a popular ski resort with direct links to the Dolomiti Superski region in Canazei.
Meet your IFMGA Mountain guide at the cable car in Campitello di Fassa for this half-day beginners via ferrata excursion. Suitable for beginners and families alike, this short but steep altitude trail will start with a short safety debriefing before you step into your harness and learn about the double carabiner anchor method. Working diagonally along the south face of the cliff, this sunny and easy climb doesn’t require any technical sports climbing and can be completed by kids as young as 10 years old. Safely secured to a metal guide wire throughout the whole climb, follow your guide as he helps you navigate the steps, crags, chimneys and ladders that will take you to the top of Col Rodella at 2,485m above sea level! From here you can spend some time to soak up the views of Val di Fassa, Sella and Marmolada are also clearly visible. Walk down a short paved road to the cable car where you will return to Campitello di Fassa.
This is a fun, short and fairly steep ferrata. Great when you just have a half a day free. The ferrata is of fairly recent construction and has good protection throughout, with tight cables & a few stemples.
