Follow the current for your first taste of canyoning on this beginner's excursion across the gorgeous Rio Neva!
Descending into the belly of Rio Neva is an experience unmatched on land, a watery landscape carved by the main river that runs through Trentino's thick forest, this small canyon system brings to life a landscape below ground. Shaped by currents and smoothed by a rush of fast flowing water, the Rio Neva offers the ultimate introduction to a sport that guarantees epic highs and breathtaking lows!
Situated on the outskirts of the northern town of Mezzano, the Rio Neva canyon system runs through a narrow corridor of rock that leads out to a large lake. Only 2 hours from Venice, this lesser-known part of the Dolomites called the Feltrine Alps sits in the Stelvio National Park - renowned for its breathtaking terrain and multi-sport culture.
Meeting near the Val Noana lake, your guide will transport you to the mouth of the canyon system where you will abseil down, navigating the through waterfalls, natural slides and large pools. Descending 100m, there are lots of opportunities to try jumps (7ft) and learn more about how this shallow waterway was formed. Both abseil and jump are mandatory. Practise simple rope skills, current control and swimming on this 2hr route - following the river to a beautiful natural arch at the top of the lake before a 20 min walk back to the designated transport.
Available from December to April, currents and water volume stay fairly consistent throughout the year with beautiful crystal clear pools, steady currents and white water slides suitable for all good swimmers.
