Do you want to experience a lot of thrills in a paradisiacal setting? Varatraza Wind Riders offers you windsurfing lessons in Sakalava Bay, one of the best kite and windsurf spots in Madagascar!
Take full advantage of windsurfing lessons with Varatraza Wind Riders' instructors in Sakalava Bay! A secure area suitable for learning and freestyle. The instructors offer you supervised lessons, using a specific pedagogy developed for you, according to your level and your objectives.
For beginners, you will learn how to start, steer, go upwind and make tacking turns while discovering the notions of safety and the rules of navigation. You will also practice waterstart.
If you already know how to windward, sail alone and master waterstart, it's time to move on to the next level! Try to sail without a daggerboard and practise beachstart. Try some tricks: Duck jibe, 360 upwind and downwind , foaming the waves, jumping...
The spot
The spot of Sakalava is located in the very north of Madagascar, close to the bay of Diego Suarez ( opposite the bay of Babaomby).
The bay of Sakalava is about 2,2 km² and is protected by a 2 km long coral reef which closes the lagoon. This allows you to sail safely, with a side-onshore wind that always brings you back to the beach. The swell is regular which makes it an ideal training area for beginners and also for freeriding. The water is warm and turquoise, with a gently sloping launch. For the more experienced, there are easily accessible reef waves.

The equipment that Varatraza Wind Riders provides is of good quality, recent and suitable for all levels and conditions.
Varatraza Wind Riders provides the brands: F-one, Airush, Cabrinha, Ozone, dating from 2016.
On the programme
- Welcome and presentation over coffee.
- Presentation of the objective of the session and the skills booklet
- Preparation of the material and start of the activity.
- If you choose an activity oriented towards active, immediate practice: the trainee is equipped with his safety equipment and the wing is entrusted to him. The whole session is done in the presence of the instructor with the classic material handling exercises.
- At the end of the session, the technical safety information is given. After the shower you fill in your logbook together.
