Explore the mysterious mangroves of Langkawi on this kayaking trip down the Kubang Badak River.
A UNESCO protected Geopark, the wild mangroves along the Kubang Badak River are rich in flora and fauna – showcasing the diverse beauty that surrounds the Kubang Badak Reserve. A place where natural wonder and legend meet, follow the current downstream - bathing in secret pools and exploring the dappled canopy, deep into the untamed Malay jungle.
This activity takes place along the Kubang Badak River in Langkawi – exploring the associated flat coastal plain, mangrove forests, intertidal sand and mudflats. Part of the UNESCO Geopark and mangrove forest reserve, it can be reached by private shuttle (1 hour) from central Langkawi.
Meet your guide at the activity base in Langkawi for this kayaking adventure down the Kubang Badak River. Travelling deep into the mangrove reserve, start with a short safety briefing and demo, guests will have a chance to practise their new skills on a flat, shallow section of the river before you head out on this half day adventure. Paddling at a slow pace, experience this serene river among the mangrove forest – observing exotic plants and animal species like long-tailed macaques, sea eagles and kites, kingfishers, herons, mudskippers, fiddler crabs and monitor lizards. Reaching a fishing station where the local fishermen gather to go to sea or return after a day out, enjoy a traditional Malay lunch – leaving the river’s edge and travelling to a secret jungle pool; its clear, cool and refreshing waters are a refreshing respite from the heat of the midday sun – the perfect last stop before returning to your accommodation.
Suitable for groups of friends and families alike, this activity is organised depending on the tidal conditions, either beginning at the coast or upriver. Guests will use two-seater sit on top kayaks that can be organised according to group age and ability.
