Walvis Bay sits on Namibia’s midwest coast and houses country’s deepest harbour. The waters around the bay are rich in plankton and small fish making it ideal for whale watchers and ocean lovers. The city has a population of 63,000 that work mainly in shipping and fishing industries. The land around the city is dry and arid due to its proximity to the Tropic of Capricorn. Walvis Bay has an airport with connecting flights to the Namibian capital, Windhoek.
Meet the team for a full safety brief and run down of the day’s itinerary. You’ll then head out to Pelican Point peninsula by 4x4, passing through sandy dessert onto your starting point. Once you’re in your kayak you’ll be guided through the calm waters in search of ocean life. At certain times of the year, you can expect to see whales feeding on the mass of plankton that thrives around the peninsula. Dolphins can be seen all year round, whilst Leatherback turtles that often grow up to 2.5 metres can also frequently be spotted. One of the most memorable parts of this trip is seal island. Here you will literally see hundreds of Cap Fur seals relaxing on the shores and swimming out to inspect you and your kayak. These friendly creatures are delightful to see up-close and provide some excellent photo opportunities.
