Activity description

Cruise into Torrent Bay and explore sheltered inlets by kayak in this exciting full day adventure starting in Kaiteriteri.

The adventure begins with a check in at the Kaiteriteri meeting point where you will meet your guide on the golden sandy beach. From here a scenic cruise will take you past the islands and sheltered waters of the Astrolabe Roadstead. Once you step off ship and head toward Torrent Bay Lodge, your friendly expert guide will settle you into a stable double kayak with full instructions and a safety briefing.

Now it’s time to paddle! Kayak towards the wondrous headlands, coves, and islands of this granite coast. Your guide will ensure you have the best experience possible as they will customize the route based on tide and weather conditions. Keep an eye out for the resident Blue Penguins and other sea birds that may wave as you paddle by. As you pass Pinnacle Island, you will most likely find the seal colony who always find a way to make things entertaining! Next, you will stop in a sheltered golden cove for a lunch break. After a restful break you will head back to the cruise and if there are favorable winds, your guide will hoist a sail to ride the breeze!

Add a Walk to explore longer (optional). Take an unguided walk (approximately 2 hours, 5 kms) around the picturesque Torrent Bay inlet to the long golden beach at Anchorage. This easy to follow track provides stunning views and quiet relaxation after a day of kayaking. Your host will make sure you are picked up at Anchorage Beach and will take you back to Kaiteriteri by boat.
