Take the controls on this beginner’s helicopter lesson in Christchurch!

The first step towards a lifetime of exploring, get a taste of what flying a helicopter is all about. Under the supervision of an experienced pilot, learn how to hover, fly and land a specially-engineered dual-control chopper – soaring high over Christchurch and the countryside!

This activity is run & operated from the airfield in Christchurch. Lessons are organised over rural airspace in the Canterbury Plains neighbouring the Southern Alps and Mt. Cook National Park.

Meet your pilot at the airbase in Christchurch for this helicopter flight & taster lesson. The perfect intro for curious flyers and intrepid explorers alike, this beginner’s trial is the ideal taster of what flying a helicopter is all about. Before you set off, cover the basic safety procedures and kit check before you take off for your lesson.  This trial flight puts you safely behind the dual controls of a Robinson 22 helicopter for a lesson and scenic flight with an instructor beside you the whole time, guiding you through your take off, hover, flight and landing. From reading weather patterns to understanding the gyroscope, test your natural technique whilst getting a feel for the controls, practising fundamental manoeuvres. What’s more, during the course of your flight you’ll get to see Christchurch from the air – exploring the impressive Canterbury Plains with the Southern Alps as the backdrop for your lesson!

Suitable for total beginners over the age of 18 years old, no previous experience is required. A two-person helicopter with dual controls, the Robinson 22 is a two-bladed, single-engine light utility helicopter specially adapted for training & lessons.
