Activity description

Wave goodbye to the mainland and take a walk on the wild side with Saltwater Eco and their range of wildlife trips to Goat Island.

Bringing New Zealand’s oldest marine reserve to life, the conservation experts at Saltwater Eco offer adventurers a chance to learn about an exceptional natural habitat first hand. Organising tours to the uninhabited marine reserve on Goat Island, near Auckland, Saltwater Eco harnesses its personal and professional connection to the local coastline to provide an amazing island hopping adventure into the unknown.

Perfect for budding naturalists and adventure junkies alike, this ancestral Maori landing beach is a sanctuary for seabirds, marine mammals and tropic sea forests that give island visitors a unique opportunity to spot tropical fish, stingrays and even bottle-nose dolphins if you’re lucky!

Snorkelling tour -
Offering 90% water visibility all year round, aquatic enthusiasts will have a chance to swim amongst shoals of tropical fish and explore the underwater vegetation with the help of your tour guide. Identify the lush underwater ecology of Goat Island and experience coastal wildlife in its rocky shallows and sea forests.

Summit hike -
Traversing the island by foot, the best way to take in the island’s unique geography is from the lookout at Cape Rodney. A 30-minute hike to the summit, this short trek to the top of Goat Island offers breathtaking views of the inner Hauraki Gulf Islands and opportunities to spot flocking birds and larger marine mammals out at sea.

SUP tour -
An adventure that will test your balance, agility and observation skills, your marine biologist will take you on a private tour where the clear water unveils vibrant communities of fish - but keep an eye on the horizon, turtles, dolphins and stingrays are all regular visitors to the northeastern peninsula, too!
