Get the best of both worlds on this kayak & hike combo tour in Abel Tasman National Park.
Explore the area’s famous coastal paths on foot and then discover Tonga Island Marine Reserve from the tide line – observing the area’s New Zealand fur seal colony and the lagoon-like waters that act as a nursery for their pups.
This activity is run & operated from Marahau and travels via water taxi into Abel Tasman National Park. Returning by sea kayak, points of interest include Tonga Island Marine Reserve, Onetahuti, Bark Bay and Awaroa.
Meet your guide at the activity base for this kayak and hike tour in Abel Tasman National Park. A celebration of the area’s natural legacy and Maori heritage, explore the realm of Tangaroa god of the sea, kayaking the length of the Tonga Island Marine Reserve. Reaching the kayak base by water taxi, get up close to the island’s NZ seals and penguin population – frequently encountering pods of dolphins as you paddle. After a light lunch on the beach, wave goodbye to your guide and walk unguided from Onetahuti to Bark Bay- feeling the presence of Tane Mahuta, god of the forest as you follow your inner compass (and well-marked map!). Head back to Marahau via water taxi and the last chance to capture panoramic views of the coastline.
