Spend up to two days exploring Abel Tasman National Park and the Tonga Island Marine Reserve on this guided kayak tour. Choosing to pack it all into one day or split up the trip with a coastal camp, this scenic tour showcases the area’s wildlife at its best – travelling through unique shoreline landscapes to witness seals, penguins & dolphins in their natural environment.

Location
This activity is run & operated from Marahau and travels via water taxi into Abel Tasman National Park. Returning by sea kayak, points of interest include Tonga Island Marine Reserve, Shag Harbour, Tonga Arches, Bark Bay and Cleopatra's Pool.

Activity
Meet your guide at the activity base for this remote coast tour in Abel Tasman National Park & Tonga Island. Choosing to complete the entire marine reserve, explore the heart of the park as you travel by water taxi to Awaroa – visiting the area’s New Zealand Fur Seal colony by sea kayak and choosing to camp overnight or return to Marahau.

1 Day Remote Coast: Travel to Awaroa by water taxi and pick up your kayak equipment in time to visit the tidal inlet of Shag Harbour. Paddling south to Tonga Island, observe NZ fur seals (Kekeno), penguins and even dolphins in the marine park – stopping for lunch on the beach. Later, visit Tonga Arches, exploring south along the carved granite coastline through to the tranquil lagoons and golden sand of the ‘heart of the park’ and your final destination, Bark Bay.

2 Day Remote Coast: In addition to the 1-day tour, overnight in Bark Bay on a coastal campsite. On day 2, walk the most famous section of the coastal track back to Anchorage – crossing the Falls River suspension bridge and catch a late water taxi back to Marahau.

Accommodation & Catering
A self-catered trip, evening dinner and breakfast are at your own cost. Rustic camping facilities are beach-based with private or shared tents available. Thermarest inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags and all camping equipment is provided

Conditions
Suitable for adventurous beginners, this multi-day tour includes all soft & hard kayaking gear - Total kayak time approx 4hrs with breaks. Please note that wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
