Activity description

Reach the end of the road on this adventure to New Zealand’s most northerly point.

Home to beaches so big you need a 4x4 to explore and dunes that touch the sky, this is not your average trip to the seaside. Discover Cape Reinga on an epic scale with this off-road adventure from 90-mile beach to Te Paki, tracing the contours of the peninsula to where two oceans collide…

This activity is run & operated from Paihia (Bay of Islands) and Kerikeri (on request)-  travelling to Cape Reinga in Northland – New Zealand’s most northerly point. Visit 90 Mile Beach, Te Paki Sand Dunes and Cape Reinga lighthouse.

Meet your guide at the activity base in Paihia for this off-road tour to Cape Reinga. A road trip with a difference, travel to where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean collide, heading to the remote peaks of Te Paki dunes for a sandboarding experience. Climb the ancient sand dunes and slide down – looking out onto New Zealand’s most northerly point. Next stop is 90 Mile beach where your experienced driver will leave the tarmac and drive along the sand – dodging rusting shipwrecks and petrified logs alike.  Cruising along this official highway (seriously), don’t be shocked when your driver steers the bus straight up Te Paki Stream up into the sand dunes – it’s all part of the off-road thrill. Reaching Cape Reinga lighthouse, watch the spectacular swirl of the currents and visit the sacred pohutukawa tree, believed to be over 800 years old – returning to Paihia where your adventure will end.

This activity is suitable for friends and family alike, travelling on a 4x4 coach purpose built to go off-road in comfort with air conditioning, reclining seats, plenty of leg room, sloping floors and large panorama windows for great viewing.
