Activity description

Experience a truly unique New Zealand adventure with a scenic helicopter flight on the Hole in the Rock along with a rewarding cultural visit with a Maori guide.

Land by helicopter on an exclusive helipad on the infamous Hole in the Rock. For many years getting this close was difficult to do but with the blessing of the Motu Kokako Ahuwhenua Trust, you can now experience it up close and on foot. You have the option to land on the island with a brief stop on the viewing platform or be hosted on the island by a local Maori guide who will share the island’s unique history, cultural and ecological significance. Choose from one of three options to experience this unique adventure:

35 min Landing Experience: A scenic helicopter flight over the Bay of Islands and to the Hole in the Rock from Paihia with return. Upon landing, you can stand on top of the island for approximately 15 mins to take in the incredible views with photo opportunities.

45 min Landing Experience: The 35 min option plus an extra 10 mins of flying with an extended scenic journey over the Bay of Islands.

1 hour Guided Experience: Scenic helicopter flight from Paihia over the Bay of Islands, with return trip. Upon landing, you will go for a short walk and cultural tour with a Maori Guide for approximately 30 minutes.
