This activity is perfect for the whole family as it's a gentle version of kayaking. On top of that, it's a scenic adventure and a safe trip everyone will love, from the children to the grandparents. It's a great opportunity for a first rafting experience combining beautiful scenery, interesting facts, a safe environment and most importantly, fun!
The route consists of a 13 km scenic section on the Rangitikei River downstream from River Valley Lodge. The rapids are grade 2 (easy) and there are over 30 of them, you'll have plenty of time to take some incredible photos. As you're making your way down, breathtakingly giant canyons make you feel small as they close in on you. It's in one of these sections you will stop for an unforgettable picnic lunch before getting back in the raft to continue your adventure. From here, it's nice and gentle floating to arrive at the take out point. Finally, you'll end your cherishable trip with a scenic drive back to River Valley Lodge.
These kayaks will give you a fun ride, challenge you, most probably get you wet, and ensure big, big smiles at the end of the day.
Possibly you are thinking that you don’t have the skill level for these crafts. These boats are really more like a mini raft than a conventional kayak. You sit in them, however as they have no upper deck, there are no problems getting out of them. They can be used as a two-person or single person craft.
The friendly team at River Valley Adventures will equip you with everything you need whether for safety or warmth. If it's necessary you will have access to wetsuits or specially designed bib-style splash pants, neoprene boots and lifejackets. Helmets are always worn.
