A seemingly placid waterway that saunters through the verdant countryside of outer Bodø, the humble Futelva River is home to annual happening that attracts eager anglers from around the peninsular - the Atlantic Salmon Run! A lazy current alive with spawning Sea Trout and Migratory Char, wildlife flock to its banks for a piece of the action - head out on a traditional canoe to experience the calm only 11 km/ 15 min from Bodø.
The Bodø region is located just North of the Arctic Circle and a paradise for sports fishermen due to its excellent salmon rivers and good trout waters in the mountains, many of them easily accessible. The Futelva River is just a short cycle ride from the centre. Bodø is home to the world’s strongest maelstrom Saltstraumen and the Børvasstindan mountain range. The largest city in the county of Nordland is also just a boat ride away from both Moskenes in Lofoten and the old trading post at Kjerringøy.
Meet your instructor in the centre of Bodø for this half-day canoeing trip down the Futelva River. Canoeing is one of the most intimate ways to explore and enjoy the nature nearby Bodø. This 4-6 hour excursion is an excellent outing for family groups. You’ll have opportunities to rest, relax, explore and spend quality time with friends and family. Improve your skills with an experienced guide who can help you work on your canoeing skills, navigation and team building - as well as pointing out the unique flora and fauna along the way.
The Futelva river is 11 km/ 15 min from Bodø and considered grade 1 with slow-moving currents and minor obstructions. The precise location for this canoe trip will be chosen by the guide due to local conditions, such as weather, wind and water level. Other locations like scenic rivers or lakes may be chosen if water level here is too low. Best time for Futelva river is April – June.
