Navigate northern landmarks like miles of snowy forests, untamed wilderness and light a campfire to watch the Aurora Borealis play out in the heavens ahead.
The low mountain forests typical of Northern Norway (pine and birch) are situated near the town of Bodø. Near to lakes and mountains, the valleys offer slightly rugged terrain and some hills. Approx. 20 km by minibus or car each way to reach the starting point, Bodø is a great place to experience the northern lights. The area's main charm lies in its backdrop of distant rugged peaks and vast skies. The Børvasstindan mountain range offers both hiking and climbing opportunities and the Bodømarka forest is great for skiing in the wintertime and long walks in the summer season.
Meet your guide in central Bodø for a half-day snowshoeing excursion. Winter walking nearby Bodø is a good choice if you want to spend a day outdoors during your visit to Northern Norway. Groups can choose a daytime or evening snowshoeing excursions in the Arctic wilderness near Bodø. A typical snowshoeing trip will normally be no longer than 2 - 3 km and last approximately 4-6 hours travelling through low mountain terrain. A casual pace tour, they'll be plenty of time to enjoy the nature and appreciate snowy forests, silence, and wilderness. On the evening hike, you’ll stop by for a break, make an open fire and enjoy a hot drink brewed in a black pot - hopefully seeing the Northern Lights overhead.
Bodø offers a wide variety of tour options. Your guide will choose the right one depending on the weather, snow conditions and the group. The starting point is typically 20 metres above sea level, while the maximum elevation on the snowshoe trip will be no more than 100m a.s.l.
