The Cascais coastline is one of the best and most spectacular surf spots in Portugal. This coastal town, once a fishing village, lies only 30kms west of Lisbon facing out onto the Atlantic Ocean. The beaches that stretch Carcavelos surf beach to Guincho surf beach are stunning. There you can find incredible mansions, the famous Estoril Casino, and the protected parklands of Sintra.
If you want to start your surfing experience in Cascais, you will find a huge choice. A mix between beach breaks, longboard breaks, point & reef breaks and both mellow & advanced surf breaks await you in this amazing spot. Also, since Cascais is really close to Lisbon, it has very easy access from almost everywhere!
The Accommodation
During this retreat, you will stay at the Moby Dick Lodge Surf House in Cascais which is the only family house that can accommodate up to 20 people in Malveira da Serra. The place was renovated in 2015 using traditional vintage furniture and colorful fabrics combined with modern comfort features.
The surf house has two lovely patios for sunbathing, reading, or just relaxing under the sun. You can rent the whole space or one of the 7 rooms and share the accommodation and meet other people. Unfortunately, you cannot bring any kind of pet and there is no laundry machine in the house, but if you wish to wash some clothes, it can be arranged with the housekeeper at a small fee per load.
Set between the ocean and the mountain, the Moby Dick Lodge Surf House is in a small town on the southwestern slopes of the Sintra Mountain, Malveira da Serra, Cascais. It is an old village that still keeps the most of its own ways of living and is well known for its traditional feast in August.
The place is right in-between the beach and the mountain, making it a perfect spot to combine water sports with trekking and mountain biking. Situated just at a short distance from the cliffs of the western tip of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca, and the Guincho beach, which is well-known as a haven for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, Malveira da Serra, Cascais, is the perfect starting point for some days of sports, chilling and great fun combined.
