Activity description

Enjoy 2 exhilarating whitewater activities in the Palmiet River in the middle of Kogelberg Nature Reserve.

The Palmiet River tumbles through the Fynbos covered mountains of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, just outside Kleinmond, about an hour's drive from Cape Town. This pristine natural environment forms the backdrop to this Palmiet River excursion.

A friendly stream during the summer months, this day trip provides a chilled float down this beautiful river, with a few small rapids in between.

Gravity Adventure pioneered the Palmiet River and have been running it for over 15 years now. They can truly say that they are ‘the original and the best’. They are privileged to be a licensed operator on this awesome river.

Tubing Excursion

You will get the chance to enjoy outings on inflatable 'gekos'. This innovative inflatable craft was been specially developed for the Palmiet River and is now used countrywide. If used in a reclining position, it provides a comfortable way to drift lazily along the pools and channels of the river. However, if used facing forward, it is an exciting way to ride small rapids.

The Palmiet River experience is suitable for all ages and skill levels! You'll be accompanied by qualified and registered guides with an intimate knowledge of the river and its environment. They will go over safety along with tubing techniques. Since all of the rapids are optional, the trip is even suitable for those who prefer a more relaxed excursion!

In the high-water months (winter and spring), you can try the longer section that begins in the beautiful Kogelberg Nature Reserve. At lower water tubing levels, you can still complete a shorter section of the river.

The rapids vary between 1-4, easy to challenging, depending on the water level.

Special terms

While there is an inherent element of risk in every adventure, tubing with professional guides should not be considered dangerous. All guides are trained in First Aid and carry a first aid kit with them. However, it is your responsibility to make sure you have any personal medication with you (e.g. asthma puffers, allergy medication, etc.).

Please note this option does not include the CapeNature Conservation fee,  which is currently R40.00 per adult and payable upon entry. If you have a WildCard or are staying in the reserve, you will not have to pay the fee.
