Activity description
The SSI Basic Diver is more than just a Try Dive in the beautiful warm waters of Lanzarote. You'll soon discover scuba diving and the amazing underwater world of Puerto del Carmen up close for yourself and it will be the start of your scuba diving journey.
Located at a 15-minute ride from Arrecife, with our vast experience with the waters surrounding Lanzarote, we will take you to the best-hidden spots of the island to safely learn the basics of scuba diving and discover some of the ocean's many wonders. What lies beneath the surface of the beautiful big blue sea is enigmatic!
Learn the basics of scuba diving theory and the equipment, learn the basic skills and demostrate them back to your instructor and all whilst discovering the marine diversity hidden beneath the surface of the ocean.
During your entire journey you'll have an SSI Instructor close to you who will show you around and show you all the marine life too. You can expect to see reef fish such as the parrot fish, bream, puffer fish and shoals of damsel fish. There might also be hermit crabs, shrimps & beautiful sea snails, octopus & cuttlefish (sepia). You might be lucky and see a ray or an endangered Angel Shark gliding effortlessly along the reef – you never know!
If you are interested in learning to dive you've come to the right place. Lanzarote Dive Centre will make you a SSI Basic Diver, the beginning of your open water diver journey!
After filling out the paperwork and medical form, it's time for your dive briefing.
During the dive briefing you'll learn
- about pressure and its effects on the body
- about the equipment you will be wearing and how to use it
- a few basic scuba skills, such as how to clear water from your mask
- how to communicate under the water
- the safety rules.
Next, your instructor will kit you up and get you into the water for your first dive.
Slowly, taking your time, relaxing as much as possible you'll get to take your first breaths in water shallow enough that you can stand up in before fully being fully underwater. You will practice the skills with your instructor and before you know it you'll be exploring and discovering an array of different fish and marine life!
After a short break back at the dive centre, where there will be water, snacks and wifi available, you'll kit back up again and head off for your 2nd dive of the day. This time you'll be able to do the skills and dive a little deeper than before with more places to explore before heading back to the dive centre for your e-certification.
