Your guide customizes the day according to the weather, fitness and interest of the group.
Meet your guide and fellow travelers at the meeting point. Here you’ll get information about the nature Stockholm hike day’s program. A 30 minute drive will take you away from the city and into the nature reserve. Here you’ll learn about the area’s geological history, from mountain range to archipelago, animals that thrive there and more. The hike starts off at an easy accessible path. You'll use the park’s main roads to get from one interesting point to another where you'll go off -track into nature. This way you can cover a lot more of the park’s area and see all the best things, while still enjoying a ‘wild sensation’. The hike starts with mystical virgin forest. You’ll also visit beaver dams, (and maybe even see a beaver!) viewpoints, several beautiful lakes, walk over solid granite plateau’s and enjoy a campfire lunch as well. On the way you’ll see signs of wildlife, learn more about Sweden and Swedish nature, and perhaps pick some berries too! You'll finish the hike entering a tiny settlement where people already have been living from the iron age. Satisfied with a fun, adventurous and educative day you'll make your way home.
What you'll see
Environment: One of Sweden’s oldest and untouched forests, many lakes and occasional rocky terrain. You'll mainly be hiking off-trail, leaving the paths behind and really exploring nature! Because of the nature reserve’s size you’ll make use of well accessible tracks, as well to get to different points of interests where you can go off-track and explore the area and hike off-the-beaten-track. Some tracks are technical with lots of rocks and roots. Plenty of edible wild berries and mushrooms are to be found as well!
Often encountered wildlife: Especially rich in bird life. Commonly seen birds of interest are the pygmy owl, black woodpecker, green woodpecker, three-toed woodpecker, and many other birds. Capercaillie is also present in large numbers. Beavers are very active in this area as well, and you’ll meet their dams, houses and maybe the beavers them selves! Moose and deer are also in the area, and are sometimes seen on tours too!
