Find your power zone and never look back! Now, all that's left is to master the basics in the shallow lagoons off Bwejuu beach...
Arguably one of the world's top kitesurfing destinations, travelling to the small island of Zanzibar is more than just sand and seafood - it's also a mecca for trade wind chasers on the search for their next high! A stunning paradise with endless beaches, reef breaks and coconuts on demand, sure, you could visit Bwejuu just for the sunshine alone - but you'd be missing out on the biggest thrills this island has to offer - grab your training kite and master the basics with beginner's kitesurfing lessons in Bwejuu!
Bwejuu is a fishing village on the Tanzanian island of Unguja, part of Zanzibar. Served by Zanzibar International Airport (Kisauni Airport) the beach resort is one hour to the east by the more popularised towns of Paje and Jambiani. Part of the beach-rich district known as Dongwe, most of the east side of the Island (Bwejuu/ Paje) is surrounded by a lagoon with super flat water inside, and a small-medium wave break at the sand reef outside.
Situated on Bwejuu beach, beginner's lessons are organised according to previous experience and overall ability in session slots of three hours. Group lessons and private lessons are available, with the 9hour course recommended for total beginners. You will start with a trainer kite, learning how to pilot it on the beach, you will then go in the water with a bigger kite to learn body dragging upwind and downwind, both security manoeuvres needed in case you need to come back to shore with the use of the kite alone. The last step is to stand on the board and start riding both directions.
The launch and riding area consist of sandy bottoms with few obstructions. Water depth changes daily from shallow waters that go out with the tide, giving way to the endless beach, reverting to deeper waters at high tides. The best seasons are July to September and December to February.
